I am mainly a gentle French style burgundy or northern Rhone girl. But I’m loving these Barossa Shiraz wines. Some beautifully balanced wines that are big and bold yet have a degree of elegance. Spice and leather on the nose with a lovely hint of liquorice. Well integrated with stewed fruit vibes. Yummy.

Bishop is such a treat, the Glaetzer wines never miss
Great vintage for the Barossa Valley.
How long did you decant for?
Do you think it will age nicely?
Cracking choice with the Bishop. Glaetzer’s wines have that rare combo of power and finesse that you don’t always get with Barossa shiraz, which can veer into jammy territory if the maker isn’t careful. The old vine fruit really shines through here, you can taste the concentration without it tipping over into raisined or overripe territory. Decanting for around 90 minutes usually opens these up nicely without killing the structure, though I’d start pouring at 30 min and see how it evolves in the glass. If you’ve got a few bottles tucked away I’d hold one for 5-7 years, the leather and liquorice notes deepen beautifully with age. Have you tried the Amon-Ra yet. That’s their top cuvee and a proper beast.
