Hi all,

We're redecorating an old lady house and I'm completely lost on establishing some kind of cohesive design language. It's really hard for me to picture this place without the furniture and work with the wood throughout the house. It's got great bones, and we love the wood, but have never had to do something like this before.

Anyone got any ideas?

    Please keep the wood floors!

I’d paint the walls a different color, but that’s so personal to you. If you go on Pinterest you can look up beautiful homes, save the ones you like for inspiration. Figure out what you like AND what you don’t like.

Looks like a nice built-in by the window, the woodwork looks in good shape around frames and fireplace. Very spacious rooms. Question- will it be empty when you move in? What is your style? Are you getting all new furniture?

Maybe try drawing a floor plan of the house and labeling each room, such as living room, kitchen, spare bedroom, office, etc. From there, ask yourself how you would want each of those rooms to be styled to be comfortable and functional for you. Like another comment suggested, find inspiration photos for yourself to get ideas. Notice if there’s a common color for all the rooms that you want to incorporate, or a common furniture form, or maybe a common theme, like nautical or whimsical. That might give you a base for cohesiveness. I’m not a pro, but I’m guessing the wood would fit in well with any style or theme as long as you treat it correctly.
