Picked this Ch. Musar up at Shrine to the Vine in London's Lamb's Conduit last week. Upon opening, pretty strong brett and a bit of TCA. The brett mellowed with a little air, and even though the TCA lingered, the wine was surprisingly pleasant with enough air.
If you like a clean wine this is a risky producer in my experience, but if you enjoy some funk this is really enjoyable. It's an relatively light bodied Cabernet Sauvignon yet brings great concentration of red fruits (cherry, wild strawberry, red plumb) followed by coco, coffee, leather, tobacco, baking spice, toasted wood, barnyard, and wet cardboard. Concentration is balanced by silky tannins and high lively acid. finish is long.
An example of a wine that makes a bad first impression but wins you over if you give it enough time.
I'd like to have this with a good dry aged steak. Maybe that would be too much funk? I don't know. Pairing is not my strength.
