I was thinking of going with dark wood theme and natural plants. Showed a picture to a friend and he laughed saying this looks like a grandma house. Idk when I was buying this set I was thinking it’s timeless and durable now I’m second guessing them. What do you think? I will be adding a table runner, chandelier, and a cream-ish/ white rug, and plants.
Ignore the stools I am getting a new set.

You could always get chair covers and placemats to dress it up, it’s not really giving grandma vibes more just it’s too dark in the room so adding stuff to it will really help.

Your friends is clueless IMO. My opinion is this set is contemporary and timeless.

I don’t think so at all! It just needs some styling. Some modern accessories would go a long way. Placemats, a runner, etc. I would just try to stay away from rustic/farmhouse style things or that could make it start to look old fashioned.

Good furniture ages slower than trends. I’d spend money on lighting, art, and a rug before replacing this set.

Chairs are simple to recover! You need fabric, staple gun, scissors and a screwdriver. Look it up on you tube, it can make a real difference

It’s classic. But if you’re bored with it there are ways to update. Paint or stain are good options.

It is a bit dark for my taste, but it doesnt look dated

Does the friend still live in his childhood bedroom? Maybe a tiny studio? The furniture is fine and that was a weird and rude way to describe it.
