My husband and I are discussing how to compromise with covering completely, half, or a third of these columns. I would like to cover completely with drywall and create open arches that still maintain the width of the “doorways”. My husband really likes the open feel and likes the half or third coverage option. We’re not sure how to accomplish partial coverage and would love any ideas you have. Let us know what you think looks good and what may be the best materials or look for partial coverage, thank you so much! (please help 😅)

I love the suggested arches. It’s so rare to see arches in modern homes.

I’m with you. I hate the “open concept.”

You could always put some shelves in between the posts and place some decorative items on them. Make some glass doors that you can hang on either side and make them look like curio cabinets. That would break up the sight lines between spaces quite nicely.

Pic 3! Closed off with arch. It’ll still feel open, I promise. And maybe do built in bookshelves!

I vote for the arches also. They will be easy and relatively inexpensive to frame in and rock. If you’re hiring a contractor to do it, make sure you hire one who is a perfectionist at heart.
