Hi all, I am desperate for some design help.

We had someone local make us a dining table a few months ago for a great price, and we really like it. But we have been without chairs since then, and everything I’ve tried hasn't worked.

I first ordered chairs to try to match the wood stain, and that was a fail. Then I ordered white chairs which go there today. The scale is SUPER off.

I would really appreciate help choosing chairs that actually work with the table and space. I’d prefer wood (or VERY easily wipeable material) chairs if possible because we have a toddler who always chooses chaos.

I’m also still trying to figure out a chandelier for over the table and pendant lights over the island, so any thoughts there are welcome too. I have been thinking gold because the cabinet hardware is gold.

Please be kind. I’m not good at design and am drowning in decision fatigue since moving into this house.

Hi OP! Thank you for bringing me back to the toddler years, when “choosing chaos” was everyday life.

Your table is gorgeous. I agree with you about the white chairs. They are too short, although the width isn’t bad. And they are not “substantial” enough aesthetically to complement the table.

When my kids were little, I had to get rid of my ladder back chairs because – surprise! – my toddler wanted to climb them. I bought what I thought would be temporary chairs and we are still happily using them. Solid seat and back, easy to wipe clean, no fiddly areas to get a head or a leg stuck, easy to use for an occasional blanket fort.
