Have this eye sore of a non functional fireplace in my apartment, was looking for any ideas to help liven it up? I was thinking maybe 2 large potted plants on the sides but I feel it'll still be lacking, any and all ideas are welcome! Trying to make my space more comforting and homey for guests as a single dude

A larger wider painting, with some color to it? And hang it lower, it’s a bit high.
The two plants are a great idea! Maybe a taller piece behind one plant, a candlestick or vase or something?
And hide the cords!

I think it’s too dark, you can try brighter one
I think the picture would look better taken off the wall and just placed on the mantel. It’s too high. You could do a grouping in the mantle of things of different heights.
