Was at a recent wine tasting event at my local wine club. Not much of a theme, but guests were told to bring one of their 'Big Boy' bottles. There was 14 of us, and we were divided into 2 tables of 7. During dinner we tasted the wines we brought from our table. After dinner, we sampled the wines from the other table.

Was a very fun evening with great wines, and better company. Would probably be better if there was a theme or region, some of the wines definitely got overshadowed by the heavily/bolder wines.

Table 1:

2005 Domaine des Lambrays Clos Des Lambray Grand Cru: A very nice nose, dark fruits, very earthy, lovely taste, well balanced. I prefer this burg over the Clos Vougeot.

2009 Domaine Jacques Prieur Clos Vougeot Grand Cru: Nice nose, on taste, still very tannin.

2010 Chateaux Margaux : Wow, what a wine, very long nose, dark black fruit, smokey. Full bodied and well balanced, multiple layers of flavour. Still taste so young, long live ahead.

2019 La Mission Haut Brion: So so young still, but nose is lingering with black fruit and cigar. Full bodied and well structured, layers of tannins. While very enjoyable tonight, can't wait to try again in 10 years.

2015 Hindsight Bella Vetta: Very dark ruby in colour and total fruit bomb. Maybe a bit outclassed tonight

2015 Soldera Case Basse: Wow what a nose, sweet floral with black and red fruits. Very balanced taste with sweetness of red fruit more predominant, well structured tannin.

2013 Abreu Las Posadas: Deep purple in colour, nice nose of black fruit and leather/vanilla. full bodied and structured, long finish.

I was at this table, and my personal favourite was the Margaux and Soldera.

Table 2:

2006 Chateau Montelena Cab: Had a small pour of this, overshadowed

1996 Ducru-Beaucaillou: Complex nose of black fruit and cigar box. Medium bodied, and the tannins have really opened up. Drinking well now

1995 Pichon Baron: did not try

2002 Dominus: Nose of dark cherry and cedar. Very full bodied, taste very Napa though. Long finish.

2000 Pavie: Nice smokey nose, full bodied with earthiness. Drinking well now.

2009 Harlan Estate: Strong nose of dark fruit. Bursts of exotic spices, maturing now.

1998 Penfolds Grange: Sweet aroma of nose with black fruits and smoke. Very full bodied with black fruit and dark chocolate. Long finish.

Dessert:

1998 Chateau D'Yquem: Inviting nose of apricot and white flowers. taste of honey and manadrin. Full bodied but balanced.

All in all a great evening, again it was a challenge to taste all the wines since it was so different and all over the place. But I did appreciate the opportunity to sample some of these legends. WOTN for me between the Margaux and Soldera.
