Last night I decided that the Mrs and I needed to open something special. So we chose this delicious BdM from Canalicchio Di Sopra.

Upon opening the bottle I was instantly greeted by that classic earthy, cherry BdM nose. I pour a small glass to taste and decided to decant the rest of the bottle. As you can see from the second photo, it has a beautiful garnet colour with a lighter rim.

After 20 minutes the wine had began to open up beautifully and presented an inviting nose of cherry, earth, gentle spices and olives. On the palate, it was fantastic. Elegant is the best word to describe this wine, with flavours of red/black cherries, oak, orange peel and a hint of balsamic. What I love about this wine is the fresh yet not overpowering acidity and the long, saline finish. The complexity of the wine made me keep having sips to try identify all the flavours present.

An excellent BdM and one of my favourite wines in general. 94 points from me.

Anyone have any other BdM recommendations at about £50/ $60 price point? I’ve tried Il Poggione which was not as good in my opinion.
