This is the floor plan of our new place – the living/dining/kitchen is a huge open space but as it's quite long I can't figure out how to make it cosy with furniture.

We would want an extendable wooden dining table. We have another comfy space upstairs which can accommodate a television etc. But we want this to be the heart of the home.

What would you do? Eclectic ideas are welcome and encouraged 🙂

that’s actually a pretty sweet layout for hosting! i’d probably break it up in zones – maybe put the dining table closer to kitchen so people can chat while you’re cooking, then create like a reading nook or art corner in that far end of living room. a big area rug can really help define each space without walls

i’ve been sketching some layouts for my own place and one trick is using furniture as dividers – like a console table behind your couch or even some tall plants. since you want it as heart of home, maybe consider a central island or peninsula if kitchen allows it? people always gravitate toward food prep areas anyway

the length could actually work in your favor – gives you room for flow between different activities without everything feeling cramped together

Two distinct zones, dining at one end & living at the other, with something marking the transition in the middle. Maybe a rug change, a pendant, even just a console table is enough to make it read as intentional rather than just long?

Float the sofa away from the wall in the living area. It sounds like the wrong call in a narrow space but it creates a cozy pocket instead of furniture just lining the edges. Round or oval on the dining table when it’s not extended too, rectangular tables make long rooms feel even longer.

    You’ve got great bones here!!
