No real mystery here the process is simple chemistry. It will work on any surface that allows water to penetrate it. French Polish, Varnish, Estapol, Lacquer. All that happens is the heat releases (softens) the tension of the finish, allowing the trapped moisture underneath to evaporation then as the finish cools it becomes hard again and reseals.
