DiscoverEU is a competition organised by the European Union for people of the member states who are 18 years old. In this competition you can win the interrail pass and travel through Europe for 7 days in a period of one month, completely for free.
I travelled with my friend Dan in September, 2019, and this video captures our experiences. Everything started with a Facebook add about DiscoverEU. Dan have seen and told me about it. We both applied, filled the survey and waited. In June we both received the same e-mail. We were one of the winners!
Then we started with planning. The most difficult thing was picking which countries should we visit and actually… that was the only planning we did. There was no exact plan, train or accommodation arranged in advance.
The plan was to sleep in campsites, in Dan’s tent. My only wish was to visit Nurnberg. We made it our 1st stop.
The next day we moved from Germany towards Switzerland, to the border town Lindau. From there we took a ferry, to the swiss side of Bodensee. Our final destination was a mountain valley Lötschental. We also managed to spend few hours in Swiss capital, Bern on the way there. Bern was nice but also it was hell walking around town with the enormous backpacks. Bear in my that our trip had only begun.
Lötschental is a beautiful valley, in the middle of mountains right under glaciers and we spent two nights there but it was so cold in that night that we were glad when we left for Annecy, France where nights are much warmer.
Before arriving to Annecy we spent a moment in Brig and also Geneve. Annecy was very nice, actually my favorite place on this trip. I realized I simply love France.
When we got to the campsite in Annecy the lady told us it was full, but she saw that we are tired and exhausted and she found for us place anyway. But it was right next to the toilets so I’ve put my foot down and told Dan that were definitely not building our tent there
We had local cousine, like amazing goat cheese, Fondue, baguettes, croissants and wine.
