I always assumed spicy Thai food wouldn’t pair well with wine — but this Royal Thai wine pairing dinner at Thanying Restaurant completely changed my mind.

Hosted in partnership with Grand Vin, the evening explored how classic wines like Chablis, Pinot Noir and Pomerol can complement the balance of herbs, spices and textures found in traditional Thai cuisine.

Highlights from the dinner included:
• Yam salmon with pickled cucumber paired with Chablis
• Tom yum goong paired with Chablis (a surprising standout pairing)
• Grilled pork jowl and herb-stuffed chicken wings with Pinot Noir
• Massaman curry paired with Pomerol
• Mango champagne jelly with coconut ice cream

My biggest surprise of the night was discovering how well wine can work with tom yum — something I never expected before this experience.
