It’s one of Syrah’s closest relatives, but after phylloxera wiped out vineyards across Europe, growers replanted with grapes that were easier to sell… and Mondeuse almost disappeared.

But if you can find a bottle it’s worth a try! It’s full of plum, cherry, raspberry and that pepper flavor we associate with Syrah.
