These French Onion Meatballs combine tender homemade meatballs with a rich caramelized onion gravy inspired by classic French onion soup. Topped with melted cheese, this cozy dish is perfect served over mashed potatoes, pasta, or crusty bread.

For the Meatballs
1 lb ground beef
ยฝ cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
ยผ cup grated Parmesan cheese
ยฝ tsp salt
ยฝ tsp black pepper
For the Onion Gravy
2 Tbsp butter
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried thyme
Salt & pepper to taste
For Topping
1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Mix and form into meatballs.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook slowly 10โ15 minutes until caramelized.
Stir in garlic, then add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer 10โ12 minutes until cooked through.
Sprinkle cheese over the meatballs and cover until melted.
