Hi everyone! Welcome back to Marie’s Kitchen! I’m so glad you’re here 🥰
Today we’re making easy French toast, both sweet and savory! French toast was my kids’ favorites when they were little and I’m hoping you’ll try it with your kids or grandkids. For toppings, try maple syrup (or the sugar free monk fruit version), fresh fruit or whipped cream! If you’re looking to avoid sugar, try the savory version! Simply use an unsweetened bread like sourdough, soak in the half-and-half and egg, and then enjoy with a fried egg, sautéed mushrooms, cheese and fresh herbs. Hope you enjoy!

RECIPE ⬇️
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/3 cup half-and-half
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of cinnamon, if desired
8 pieces thick-sliced bread
Butter for the pan
For serving: maple syrup and butter; powdered sugar or whipped cream; fresh fruit
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a pie plate or shallow bowl, mix together the half-and-half, eggs, vanilla and cinnamon until well combined.
Melt a pat of butter in a non-stick or cast-iron pan or griddle over medium heat.
Working with one piece of bread at a time, dip a slice of bread in the egg-custard mixture and let it soak for a few seconds, then flip the bread and soak the other side. Then pick up the bread, letting any excess egg drain off, and place it in the hot pan. Cook the first side until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes more.
Serve warm with maple syrup and butter, powdered sugar and fruit, or whipped cream.

Love French toast Marie! Thank you for sharing this😊
Sweet French toast using leftover panettone or pandoro is also excellent.
The last time I made French toast, the only bread we had was my homemade sourdough. I wasn't sure it would work, but it was delicious!
A bit of nutmeg goes beautifully with cinnamon in the custard mix.
I've never thought of savory French toast before. Yum! Great idea. 💞
