Oh what memories the train station bring back.
Going back in time to 1995 a friend of mine was getting out of a Mason Repo(sp) after being in the hospital for 4 months.
Went down to Nice to help him travel back to Lyon.
So not knowing what to do when arriving in Nice I stayed in the hotel on the opposite side of the train station.

That seems like a nice quiet hotel. I'm pretty hard to be impressed but 1. Great Bed, 2. Great shower, 3. Quiet. Wow! It looks like you got really good food too!

When the French decide to go ugly – sky is the limit. This hotel is almost as ugly as the Neuf Lignes Obliques monument on the Promenade, the rusty iron tall thing. The inside is ok. I didn't know the duck place which looked nice.

Fabulous…. enjoy the break… do you know… I’m not a little dog person but chihuahuas, a friend looked after one for a while… I became his “bestie” especially when he was in trouble for something, he’d come and sit with me for protection against the sharp voice of the female..! He was so small when she first had him he slept in a shoe-box … chihuahuas are lovely… I can see yours is well behaved, whilst on camera anyway… 😂

We visited the rooftop bar for my daughter's birthday last year and it was a lovely view of the Nice skyline even though some of the floor tiles were already coming loose (only a year after opening 😬).
We live only a block from the station, so if you'd told us you were coming, we'd have rustled up a couple of boiled eggs, with soldiers and a mug of tea for nowt! 😂

That was super fun. It’d be awesome if you’d do more local hotel reviews. And more local restaurant reviews as well. I just wander around when I’m in Nice, wondering where to go. In January 2025 we did go to Consani Osteria in Ventimiglia – your recommendation – a hole in the wall off an ally – got there when it opened and had to queue to get in! I think it only had 15-20 closely spaced seats and 99% locals! It was fabulous! We were just talking about it again the other day. You guys have honest reviews and discerning taste – so your opinion goes a long way. ❤
Want to see that lamb shank next time. You could train down to the restaurant, too!
Hotel looks great. I stay at airport hilton night before flying and very comfortable as well. Restaurant is on my list for April visit. Looked like a Paris bistro off beaten track. Thank you as always. I'm staying in Antibes for 3 weeks in April. Looking forward to the international contemporary art and antique fair held mid April for 10 days! Maybe we'll meet!
I've stayed in a few Double Tree hotels in London, they are all very good, the mattresses are exceptional and the cookies are always warm at reception when you check in.
That food looked absolutely delicious, far too much, but hey – not every day, obs! And you did get offered a doggy bag too!
That little duck restaurant served the most delicious looking meal. What a find

Well overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the room and the interior design. At 16:00 I liked the 70's Euro Jet-Set theme of the lounge. And when you consider that in much of the U.S. A filthy, roadside dive run by some Bangladesh motel mafia would have been as much, I'd almost call it a bargain!
The exterior however seemed to have been a bit too much inspired by Las Vegas and the old Luxor pyramid eye-sore. The Diner however, Oh La, La! If it quacks like a duck "running in ze grass and stuffed with grandma" what's not to love?
Btw, Thank you Mr. Boo for explaining "Miam miam" I grandmother used to always say that, must have been something she inherited from France.

I've never been let down by a Doubletree Hotel–before Hilton, for context. Reasonable prices, friendly service from a staff that seemed to like their jobs, and always an apology gift if anything went wrong, like delayed room service with a standing order during a conference break. It was always my go-to. They didn't have much choice for window views, did they? Cities frown when you demolish everything to the sea when you build your hotel. Attractive legs on elevator walls, though.
That room would have been 600 Quid in Central London–at least. And even higher food and drink prices.

OMG!!! My favorite restaurant EVER!!! Marie & Jean-Michel are amazing!!! We have a reservation on April 2. When preparing to visit Nice, I always search for videos for this restaurant and nobody has discovered this hidden gem. And yet the Tripadvisor reviews are fantastic! We are spending 9 days in the South of France (March 25-April 3) and using Nice as our base again. Maybe we will run into you in Villefranche! Thank you for highlighting this restaurant.

I tried to get my wife to come for a third time in Nice, but no! However, we are off to Les Eyzies in June for a week, never been there before, and….. going by train (see how I kept the link until last!) 😂
I’ve looked at this hotel several times, but I was skeptical about the location. It seems like you had a great time. Maybe we’ll try staying there in the future. In September, we’ll be staying in Villefranche for the first time 😊

I stayed at the Iconic in January of this year. I too was impressed with how quiet the room was. Staff was friendly and helpful. I thought the large empty minibar was a waste of space. Not having a mini fridge in the room was a big disappointment. I travel for work and always have one for a yogurt and milk for my tea in the morning. You can go to the bar and request a large or small bucket of ice. I wrapped towels around the large ice bucket to create my own mini fridge. Worked well enough for my three day visit. I’m looking forward to dining at La Route du Miam next time I’m there. Thanx for the review😁
