The winery was created by William A. V. Cecil, grandson of the estate’s founder George Washington Vanderbilt II. Cecil believed vineyards and wine production fit the estate’s French château style and agricultural heritage. The winery officially opened to the public in 1985. Today, the cellar is used for aging wines in barrels and storing finished bottles.
