Hey, names aren't necessarily spelled the way they're pronounced. "Brian" might be a different way of spelling "Brianne," or maybe somebody with creative parents. My name is Ruth. The guy at the next desk is Bruce. We both answer to either name. It gets humorous. Edit: My ex used to be a stage hand/prop guy in New York, where Julia Child routinely filmed. He said that she was almost never sober. Something to think about when you see her slopping meat onto the stove or staggering when holding a pan. She was a kind and generous soul and took care of the people who worked on her set, always pleasant to be around because she was nice to the staff and they appreciated it, but she did like her wine.
@14:28 Frenchie, you may as well ask, "why is an atari pixelated?"
We are Old.
Relish the times when the tv was blurry and people actually spoke face to face.
PBS still does some good cooking shows and no commercials! If want to see how tall Julia was check out Sara moulton’s week night meals episode 306! She worked behind the scenes and said some times she was under that cooking area handing stuff to Julia! They’re is also an episode of Julia’s show on pbs with Martha steward killing it on a multi level cake with decorations!!!
Julia react?? I'm in and fat.
17:30 Julia Child's mother even said "dear God, I've given birth to over 18 feet of children" since all of her siblings are giant. Those are some strong genes in her family.
Chefs, eat an egg on toast before you go to the gym, it’ll help a lot
I used to say in the restaurant the unsung heros were the ones in the dish pit 🙏🏼. After watching shows like this, it makes me want to have moment of silence for them. 🤘🏼👍🏼🤙🏼👌🏼☮️🇺🇸
Frenchiiieee! Great seeing you feeding Brian snacks today! Good for you!😊
28:43 Same… On Saturdays after my cartoons were over, it was Jacques Pepin, Julia Child, and Martin Yan on PBS
Thanks for another great video! Would love to watch you guys react to some Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares clips since you both own restaurants. If you havent watched it before i think Frenchy MIGHT get a heart attack
I'm so happy we're finally covering Julia Child. I made her Coq Au Vin recipe and it made me want to be a better cook. "Take the time to do the important things."
Thank you for reacting to Julia Child! This takes me back to my early childhood watching Julia after school. Loved her program!❤
Julia Child and Graham Kerr are my hero's!
Pretty sure he's talking bollocks about broccoli. It has been engineered to have much larger "flowers" since WW2 using Japaneae hybrids but as a plant it predates the Romans.
Always remember this woman gave confidence to tens of millions of housewives across the west to try to make better food. And then the feminists forced them all to get jobs and lose all these joys.
People like to say there was only 3 channels growing up, but it's not true… we had PBS too (and the syndicated channels playing the re-runs) and I spent so much of my days as a kid watching Julia and enjoying that half hour every day. Beautiful episode Chef Brian
Broccoli has been around for a long time.
She has a Briish accent so heavy that if I close my eyes she sounds like Monty Python's Terry Jones acting one of his female characters.
Many still say Julia Child's recipe for Beouf Bouruignon is still one of the best because it's not that hard to make. She keeps the recipe relatively simple, for starters.
Frenchie is right. This should have been an episode of the other show, not the podcast.
You guys need to do another old school video reaction but also point out how much cooking and food science have changed since that time.
of course, she's using le Creuset cookware.
Also remember when Julia was doing these shows WGBH in Boston had almost zero budget. Other shows like this old house and the like came because of this show. Most programming on WGBH before this was a person sitting in a chair doing an interview or speaking direct to camera about rather dull topics.
Julia was probably one of the top U.S. intelligence officers before these shows started. Her cover story was that she was a secretary in the OSS in world war 2, but pretty much all classified intelligence information and agent reports came past her desk. She invented the OSS’s methods of sorting and cataloging information. She also worked with the U.S. Navy and invented a Shark repellent. But she and her husband (who was also in the OSS and later was a diplomat) knew all the U.S. important secrets.
Modern broccoli is a young plant, but not that young. Now it really was not available in the US and outside the Mediterranean until after World War Two. It came to The United States from Italy in the late 40s just like a number of other Italian foods.
Eat a piece of fruit or some simple carbs before the gym, its a game changer. My dietician recommended it and its made a big difference in my workouts 12:30
Please do another Julia Child video! You know, there were often helpers crouching behind the stove area, removing things or putting things there – almost Jim Henson style. Great show, guys!
Frenchy complaining about not working more lol
as far as i know, i believe actual french bourguignon has no tomato/paste in it.
surprised frenchie did not mention it.
14:45 AI upscaling actually makes it worse for reason I don't understand but T1J could explain. The simple fact is that these shows were shot on videotape to be broadcast to 24-inch TV sets and we just have to live with it.
