You will get your coin back in the cart when you return it to its station. If you don't have any change, you can ask the cashier for a token
This was fun and so interesting. Loved it!
When the French have a barbecue, they don't raid a supermarket; they buy fresh produce, not vacuum-packed food—it's a matter of respect for their guests.
We eat fresh produce, uncontaminated by tons of chemicals. Our chickens are raised in a healthy way; there's no need to disinfect them with chlorine.
We make an effort for the planet; we use reusable bags, and we don't die from it.
While China and the USA, seemingly allies for the occasion, pollute the planet without a second thought, the rest of the world is concerned.
2:11 North American brown sugar is made with molasses while western European brown sugar is made with caramel.
The cart doesnt cost anything, we get the coin back when we park it back and put the chain back on it 😅
Oh, another thing : the prices tagged on the shelves are the actual prices you will pay at the end to the cashier, taxes are already included
Hello, for the shopping cart, you just need a plastic coin that you insert to remove the cart and that the people at the information desk can give you, or a €1 or 50 cent coin. Don't worry, they'll give it back to you when you return the cart to its place. Another thing: you can use your own shopping baskets or plastic bags that you buy, which are inexpensive, or paper bags, which are even cheaper. You can keep them for next time! The wine and cheese sections are huge! The French also like to shop at city or village markets, where they can buy healthy products directly from the producers. There is brown sugar in some supermarkets. There are so many different things in French cuisine, thousands of recipes, and the French are very attached to quality food and culinary traditions. Salads and prepared, packaged meals are intended for those who want to save time, such as people who work, but as for me, like most French people, I prefer to make these simple dishes myself 90% of the time, because they are much healthier and tastier. You should NEVER put natural eggs in the refrigerator, even if there are places designated for this purpose! Cheese tastes much better when it is made from raw milk, which can only be found in France. The Emmental cheese, is Swiss but FRENCH AS WELL. For awards such as gold medals, it depends on the importance of the competition. Those in Paris or Brussels for wine are among the best. You can also visit supermarket websites and read French consumer reviews, in order to choose. In general, the French know what they're talking about when it comes to food and wine.
Thanks for your videos and friendly regards to you
lol so for the american sauce , it's the sauce in the Big mac so i presume that's why they use the label "american" sauce
u finish shoping put cart bag at his place and u got u money back easy
No more bags as it used to be. For environnemental purposes.
carts are free the euro or the plastic token you put in to have a cart is redeemed when your replace it in the right storage place. it avoid to have plenty of carts around the parking lot. and they didn't said it but prices are shown including taxes so you don't have any surprise at the cash.
Oh, I love Baguette Bound !
for the brown sugar, that's not true at all, she just doesn't know how to look 🙂 there is brown sugar everywhere
Bonjour d'Occitanie (France)
Baguette Bound is a truly exceptionnal channel ! I'm so glad you're watching on of their videos ♥
Oh et fun fact, there's a link between Walt Disney and Isigny (as in the butter "Beurre d'Isigny" she was showing while talking about AOP and AOC). Part of his ancestors came from Isigny so Disney is just Isigny badly pronounced XD
Supermarché means Supermarket, they did their shopping at Leclerc. There are other supermarkets,HypperU,Carrefour,Intermarché…to name a few.
The coin you put in the troley you get it back when you return the troley to its place,if you dont have a one euro coin, you can ask a plastique token (free) from the supermarket, same principal as the coin, you get it back when you return the troley to its place. They dont give shopping bags "plastique" so that some of them are not found in nature once used.
Cat from France
I cannot believe they didn't talk about the whole aisle on chocolate !!!!!
Hello, I'm French, and the video you're using as a basis doesn't quite reflect reality. It's very biased. I sometimes follow you and I like you. Thank you for your discussion.
What the definition of brown sugar for the US? I think france (Saint-Domingue, Martinique, Guadeloupe,………) had brown sugar before the creation of USA.
2:12 "We have yet to find something that has the same taste"
=> I'm pretty sure that, if they took the time to ask an expert on the subject, then they would be able to find some brown sugar that tastes far better.
Minor error: to unlock a shopping cart, simply insert a token provided by the store. Then, when you return the cart to its storage lane, you retrieve your token and keep it for next time. If you choose to use a 1 euro coin instead of a token, you also retrieve it when you return the cart.
For thé cat you don't spend money the money you put inside is rejected when you attached again thé cat after shopping so we use often some jeton
For thé milk youbyake one bottle and you buy only one bottle you don't paud for thé entier bottels
A few remarks : 1 "Supermarché " is the generic word ; for the bigger sized ones ( that can be quite huge) it's "hypermarché " ( for the small city ones, it's "supérette" ) we also often use the alternative expression " grande surface" (= large selling surface)
2- no, you don't pay for your cart, as people have explained in the comments. I have about 4 or 5 plastic tokens in my bag and car that do the job
3 Clients are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags, but at the cash desk there always are cheap canvas tote bags, shopping bags or even plastic ones for sale, with patterns and decoration that change seasonally.
4 Supermarkets (especially Leclerc) sell eveything that's "para pharmaceutical , like foot cream, bands, condoms, lube, vitamins, throat lozanges , it's only proper medecine that you won't find.
5 You do find yeast conditioned in bigger containers, like SAF-LEVURE ( sold at Leclerc and Carrefour) , it takes a little internet search to see if they have it.
6 She's right about brown sugar, supermarkets will not always give you much choice ( make sure you check the differents shelves though , like the one for "products of the world" ,and the one for luxury groceries) .
Try local organic supermarkets and shops, or grocers, there are plenty of other shopping options, you'll eventually find the one that 's to your taste.
Many French people buy in bulk or basic poducts in supermarkets once a week, then complete with shopping in smaller specialized shops in town centers with high quality products , and/or open air local farmer markets.
7 Unlike eggs, fresh / raw milk can also be found in the refrigerated sections if that's how you prefer it..
8 We do have crackers, but in a different shelf ( usually with the biscottes for beakfast, or with the organic / luxury products ) .
9 The best butter is seaweed salted butter, it's usually found around Christmas, it' s fantastic with seafood.
Some interesting data about food and agriculture in France :
On the Global Food Security Index, that compares 113 countries on food quality, accessibility, affordability and safety, France ranks 4th worldwide, behind Finland, Ireland and Norway !!
France is the leading producer of agricultural goods in Europe, almost 20% of all food produced in Europe comes from France.
France is 5th in terms of exportation of agricultural goods worldwide. 1st in Europe in terms of surface area deficated to agriculture. Almost 55% of France's territory !
According to a ranking by the Japanese ministry for agriculture, France is also the 3rd most self sufficient country worldwide !
Here in Switzerland our supermarket is similar to France
They are smaller compared to USA supermarkets but you get good stuff, and lots of it local
French boomer here.
1) We do not pay for the supermarket cart, we just insert a special token.
2) Baking soda is just called "bicarbonate de soude", you find it in the "salt, spices and mustard" aisle. Yesterday, I bought 2 boxes of that "baking soda/Bicarbonate de soude". Reina just lacked the french word.
3) Brown sugar = sucre brun or cassonade. There is plenty of it in any supermarket.
Hey guys where are you from? ☺
You can find baking soda in the salt aisle. It's food grade baking soda = "bicarbonate de soude alimentaire" do not take it in the garden aisle it's not for consumption!
