I have always loved tasting wines of the Old World. Even though I live in Wine Country in California, I tend to keep going back to taste anything from that area. Of course it does not hurt that it gives me an excuse to travel to Europe to learn more.
In this series which we are calling “France in a Glass” the goal is to have casual conversations about different bottles of French wine. One of us is a Sommelier (me, Nilu Afshar) and the other one is a Winemaker ( Henrik Poulsen).
This is not for any wine school or going over a certain curriculum, rather just our taste buds talking and giving a general idea of the area, the bottle, and pricing. So if you want to try something different, and maybe get excited about traveling to some of these places, you are in the right place.
Also as we are both have our own businesses, we offer events and tastings all over so do not hesitate to send us a message. This episode is about the Right Bank of Bordeaux, in which is a small area called Fronsac and I found this producer when I was trying to taste Merlot from the Right Bank but did not want to spend thousands on a bottle. What I tasted got me excited about Merlot again, a grape that in the USA is really not enjoyed. We would love to hear what areas we can taste for you so feel free to send us ideas.
