You see Grand Cru on a label and assume it means the same thing everywhere, right?
Not in France. Not even close.
In Bordeaux, it’s about the château and historical classification.
In Burgundy, it’s about the exact vineyard plot.
In Champagne, it’s about the entire village the grapes come from.
Same words. Three regions. Three totally different meanings of “the best.”
French wine doesn’t like being simple — and that’s why we love it. 😉
