I eat at and review La Renommée, which is located in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, France. La Renommée is the first Paris establishment from Hogsalt Hospitality, which is the restaurant group that has opened spots like the popular 4 Charles Prime Rib in New York City and Au Cheval. It was at the end of 2023 that La Renommée opened their doors and became one of the most popular spots in Paris. The restaurant serves luxurious French food and also some American fare like steaks and a version of the famous Au Cheval burger.

  1. This is one of those reviews that takes a restaurant that you may have heard of or know about but haven't given a second thought to, and completely changes your thought process as far as up and coming travel and where you're headed to next. Everything about the menu, the name of the restaurant, the space both outside and inside, as well as your other footage of Paris has instantly made this a bucket list destination for me. Browsing the menu online, I'd be torn between the rabbit pasta, the au poivres filet, or the strip steak. I might have to make more than one reservation. In any case, these are the feelings that I want to feel when watching a video such as this. Thanks for the motivation to dust off my passport and book a flight!

  2. Glad you felt well enough to enjoy the meal, travelling while sick is miserable. I really need to do something in Paris again, it's been a while and it's so much closer to me than to you! They're still not great at catering for vegetarians in the starred places though, despite having so many of them (stars that is, not necessarily vegetarians).

  3. I’m binge watching you, James. Some of your videos had been overlooked, and some I enjoyed better the second time around. Thank you. Eat some chicken and noodle soup. Feel better.

  4. James, do you have any recommendations for northern Spain? Would love to dine out with my wife.

  5. Simply, you captured the pure essence of why Paris IS a food capital city. Your meal is a representation of what should and IS simple haute cuisine “le francais”. This was a wonderful video creation highlighting an exceptional dining experience. But if I may inject one further thought, I wish MORE PEOPLE would appreciate & select “Dover Sole” as a main course (as mentioned by you as a side thought). In my opinion, this dish is among the most “UNDERRATED” yet unbelievable special of any “haute” cuisine dish available in the food world when prepared correctly. Overall, I thank you for sharing this very interesting & enjoyable video offering! Well done, sir! It is my sincere pleasure to be a channel subscriber!

  6. 19.95 for a mocktail? Those prices are out of sight. But it's true that Hogsalt is expensive. The same meal at Bavette's in Chicago would have been $123 plus a 20% tip equals about 148.00. Since you did not have to tip, the Paris price was about $167.

  7. The reviews of James Andrews are not only in a class above all other YouTube channels because of his deep knowledge and experience in the world's cuisines, but the geographical and historical information of each location is totally enjoyable and appreciated. In addition to that, James is casual, yet professional, when speaking to us with honesty and light humor.

  8. Such a great review, so nice to watch! And yeah.. nothing in the world beats French cuisine and a good Parisian bistro or restaurant!

  9. Gordon would say…they have drowned the beef and nice-looking pool. Paris has changed (not for the good) since going 12years ago. Feel better!!!

  10. While I usually love his reviews, idk what it is about the western world and going out, particularly unmasked, when sick. He looked awful and should only have gone out for necessities. I feel for waitstaff and customer service workers that have to interact with obviously sick people.

  11. Hey James enjoy the videos keep up the great work! I have a suggestion…could you make playlists for your videos? It is harder to watch your older videos in succession without the playlist because Youtube will kick me back to your latest video. Maybe have a playlist for each year? One for Michelin starred restaurants? I think this would increase your view count as well. I have fallen asleep to other Youtuber's playlists and they played the whole night lol. I imagine I am not the only person who has done this. Easier to binge watch with the playlist…could help with your numbers. Just a thought man! Thanks again

  12. Hahaha, first off, I hope you get better from being a little sick.😊 The dinner here looked very nice. The first part of the meal with beef sauce looks very nice.😊

  13. I was literally you the day after I got to Paris last year. Sick instantly. Got over it quickly though so that was nice.

  14. James, you're just a big kid, man. Just a big kid who loves reviewing great restaurants and it's always fun to watch!

  15. Hello & greetings from Paris, born and raised! In Paris there is a special segment of expensive restaurants that caters to "well off" and "trendy" tourists and this is a perfect example of such a restaurant. As a long time subscriber I pressed liked, but as a Parisian, nobody local (rich and/or trendy) would pay 86 euros for that dish and then be humiliated to pay another 15 euros for a "side". Not a question of money, but rather a question of culture and personal pride. And…just like Japan- absolutely no tipping, except for maybe "rounding up" if you pay cash which very few does anyway these days. Sorry man but keep up the excellent work!

  16. Fucking hell. That is expensive. That’s like New York pricing.
It’s completely unnecessary to spend that sort of money in Paris.

  17. get well soon, James–why are you always traveling alone…you should have an entourage of those who appreciate your opinions and observations, friend

  18. Good video James you didn’t look-well! It was a interesting place- I went to Paris5 yrs ago in winter afterNoel and what impressed me that they sold hot roasted Chestnuts on street-

  19. James, after 32 years in clinical psychologist, I’ve learned that true expertise doesn't need to perform. You’ve done your research, but the pretension in your delivery is creating a barrier between you and your audience. Lose the affectation; the facts are enough. And you shouldn’t go out ill.

  20. That looked absolutely delicious indeed and makes one realize that the classic French cuisine still deserves a lot of respect.
