Texas hunting ranches have also saved a number of endangered/threatened species through breeding programs and a program for rhino (not for hunting) has been in the works for years. A group is trying to create a safe refuge/s for orphaned rhino to grow until they can be released back into the wild, hopefully after poaching in Africa has been curtailed. Tigers too. When pollution, poaching and habitat destruction ends wild tigers, Texas will have saved another species.
And I live near Denison Texas . And did you know that there is a community college in Grayson County Texas which encompasses Denison and that particular college has a winery
I knew part of the story, I didn't know all of it. My family used to have a vineyard & winery in central Texas and so I knew a little of it's history. Thanks for story time, Ollie! ~A Texan 🤠
I cotton to you English you are a rare Texan. I don't know where you're living in tTexas , but since you seem ecstatic and deeply in love , it's my guess you must be living near Fredericksburg or Banderas in the most beautiful part of Texas, the Hill Country. I actually worked the Wimberley valley winery. I have worked for Moyer, champagne and did some weekend hire out at cypress mill winery and slaughter leftwitch. Thank you. I did not know that.❤ I'm going to subscribe I find you entertaining 😅 Once had a Englishmen friend when I lived in Kyle TX. He was a student graduated and don't know where he went with.
Thanks for the history lesson @ThatEnglishmaninTexas! Who'd a' thunk that what was probably the lowly Mustang grape would have pulled lesson France's chestnuts out of the fire. 😊
My daughter’s boyfriend is in the wine making industry in Minnesota. I shared this with him and he replied: I know the story well. A pretty big part he left out is that phelloxera are from the Americas and caused the wine epidemic in the first place. So Texas solved the problem that they essentially created. That’s also why we don’t have to graft here in Minnesota since we use native hybrids that are already resistant
I remember watching some movie and this whole wine situation was a little side bit of that movie. I've not heard of it since. That is until you shared this! I truly like true world history. I believe this is one of the true bits. LA VIVA TEXAS!! 😂 ✌🏻🙏💚 Love your voice. Have you ever thought about reading historical facts for people who have trouble sleeping? I think you'd do very well at it. 😉
France is nothing, and they're even less without Texas. Now, if they ditch the 0 (Macron)and replace with a French hero, they might turn things around.
Phylloxera might have been in the rest of the “New World” yet nature in Texas solved it and it was noticed by Texans. So Texas and Texans did solve a major problem from a consequence of European travel, trade, exploration, etc.

The Frogs won't admit to it though. Their arrogance is beyond most people's grasp.
4th generation Texan and I didn't know that.😊

Actually it was mostly NY vineyards… Texas had a few… but it was the original French root stock found in the NY wine country…

I believed they dubbed it “iron root.”
A tip of the cap from Iron Root Distillery in Denison
Love History and Texas is Great
Very interesting, let's hope there are no hops lice or mites.😅
What a great history lesson. And just what we Texans need, another fact to brag about our great state.
U go to the Fredericksburg area u will find all kinds of wine even growers of the grapes yep oh the oldest winery in Texas is in del Rio
Yep, we know about it. Thanks still !
The Munsons still basically run Denison
Gotta love my State!
Yes, I'm aware of this history. It's an awesome piece of history to share with the rest of the world. 😊
Interesting
I do like wine, i knew it was new world but I didn't know if it was Texas in particular
If you’re anywhere near Mason TX please go try Peter’s Prairie Vineyard wines. Award winning and owned by a good friend of mine.
More importantly, the High School Football Stadium in Denison is now Munson Stadium.

Sounds expensive, Kanye neck, Shana Nay, what was that other name? 🤣

There is an award given I believe annually in France that dates from when Texas saved the French wines.

The Missouri Rhineland Vineyard sent roots of grapes to France as well.
Very interesting Thanks for sharing that!
There's nothing in this world that you cannot find a version of here in Texas.
Very interesting. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
