Explore the diverse food culture of Phnom Penh, Cambodia! From $3 cafes to $50 luxury dining, see why this city is a hidden gem.

After living in Phnom Penh for a full year, I realized the numbers on a spreadsheet don’t tell the whole story of the Cambodian economy. To see the real “Economic Miracle,” you have to look at the dining table.

In this video, we’re skipping the spiders and street food and diving deep into the sophisticated, eclectic, and globalized food scene that makes Cambodia’s capital so unique. We’ll explore the French colonial roots of the cafe culture, the “Third Wave” coffee movement driven by young Khmer entrepreneurs, and the luxury skyline dining that rivals any major city in the West.

Whether you’re a digital nomad, an expat thinking of moving to Southeast Asia, or just a foodie curious about the “Kingdom of Wonder,” this video is your guide to the layers of history you can actually taste.

  1. After a year here, I’m convinced: Phnom Penh is officially giving Bangkok and Saigon a run for their money in the 'best food city' debate. If you had $20 to spend on one meal here, are you going for a high-end French bistro lunch or as many local cafe favorites as possible? Let me know your pick! 👇

  2. Love your take on this , had to watch it twice . Love the shirt too. I’ve noticed that too , Khmer overseas returning to Cambodia either by choice or deportation has brought the overseas culture and transforming Cambodia . Growing up in America , never in my life have I ever listen to so many modern Khmer music . But it’s so good now , I can’t ignore it . The growth is coming and still going Strong .

  3. If you bring dollars or British money to live in Southeast Asia, which country should you choose to live? Vietnam? Thailand? Cambodia? Today, I was told that Cambodia is very different now. I visited Cambodia in 2003, I was still afraid to go around. I didn't even trust the people I really know. People have been telling me that Cambodia is very different now. By the way, the best coffee to get is at the corner restaurant when you see a lot of local people patronize. There are normally groups of people gather together every morning for coffee or breakfast.

  4. Cambodia has a rapidly growing, vibrant coffee culture. When we were in Phnom Penh we saw many fancy, cute coffee shops all over, even Starbucks shops are better and bigger than here in the USA.

  5. Thank you, Tami, for living in Cambodia and for loving it. We hope you will continue to live and love Cambodia ❤

  6. @6:55 it's disrespectful to wear such shorts hot pants to the temple, especially to Angkor Wat. It is not just a tourist destination, like the Egyptian pyramids or the Roman Coliseum, it's still a profoundly sacred for local Khmer people and national symbol. Please please edit that image woman racy image, even if it ai.
