January in the South of France means one thing: truffles. 🍄✨ On everything. In bulk.
In cette vidéo:
A jaw dropping taste test in the Battle of the Brandades as a local Uzetien poissonérie goes head to head with a 5th generation father & daughter team from Nîmes.
A Truffle Charity Auction!! (180 euros going once, going twice) (It’s for the children!)
Fresh black truffles (tuber melanosporum) say it three times fast – sold by local producers
Allll the truffled foods served at the festival, followed by the buying and eating of said foods. (I’m sorry that I ate the truffled macarons and forgot to film them. I’m sorry okay?)
A $h*t ton of truffles (pardon my French)
Grey, drizzly, dreary January (why did everything start ending with a parentheses?)
In this video, let’s go to a traditional winter truffle festival in southern France, where local producers and truffle hunters gather to celebrate one of the most prized ingredients in French cuisine. The town and the air are afoot with the musty earthy aroma of the beloved truffle.
The Uzès Truffle Festival is held here in a historic town in Occitanie. The square fills with tents every January as truffle (farmers? hunters? producers?) come with their black diamond goods.
Truffles are deeply tied to regional identity in France, especially in the south, and this festival is about more than food – it’s about seasonality, community, and savoring life at a slower pace. If you’re curious about French gastronomy, local markets, or what winter in France really looks like, come on in.
This video is part of my ongoing journey documenting slow living in France, French food culture, pastries (obvs), and the French art de vivre.
Should out to my little bro for helping me edit this video!! Arigato Gozaimasu!! This helps me so much!
✨ If you enjoy calm France videos, French markets, and food, well, me too! You should probably subscribe so we can hang out again!
Bisous

In a crazy world it is so refreshing to see your videos on the daily pleasures of life in France. La vie est belle! Merci Julie!
I’m wondering ? You spent a few months in Nice and are now back in Uzes ? Which one do you prefer for living in? Thank you
Love from France
Now, I want to fish spread! If it’s truffle season there, where are my truffles? I’m in California. I have to check.
"too mutch" and "cheese" can't be used in the same sentence in France, it's forbiden by law. Yep yep yep.
aaaaaand now I'm looking up mushroom veloute recipes. I'll bake some ciabatta rolls and cook up a pot of soup for dinner on Saturday night. Thank you 😏🤤
So vacuous …
You have to watch the Italian film Trufale, released in 2025. All about truffle hunting, dogs who do it and a girl who learns the art of the hunt from her grandfather. There is magical realism, danger, and harsh economic themes. It is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Beautiful cinematography, Italian films are so poignant and the actress is superb.
And you'll find in France more than one town having such a festival 😉
Hi Julie! So nice to see you again, been missing your videos! Wonder if you might give us a tour of your apartment one of these days ? Your kitchen backsplash looked very cute . Have you given up on the idea of moving to Nice?
By the way, your French has much improved ❤
What is the difference between the fougasse & the sacrisant? I thought they were the same thing.
Did you know you can make a brandade with potatoes? It’s not a dip, but a main course. I’ve never had access to a truffle to cook with, but you could totally grate a truffle on it once it’s out of the oven. Not that it needs anything else, imho.
