I’ve been thinking about something that stuck with me after seeing a funny anime style post about Italian red wines, and it raised a serious question for me as a wine drinker.

Is Barolo really the king of red wine, or are we just biased toward Italy?

In this episode, Jason’s Thought of the Week – I put Italian red wines head to head with French red wines to settle the debate. From Barolo, Barbaresco, and Brunello di Montalcino to Bordeaux Left Bank, Right Bank, Beaujolais, and Northern Rhône Syrah, I walk through a simple this or that challenge to test which styles truly stand out.

Growing up, I was heavily focused on French wine like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz, but the more I explored Italian wine through food, travel, and tasting, the more I realised how much depth and character Italian reds bring to the table.

This video is not about being right or wrong, it’s about exploring flavour, structure, tradition, and why certain wines emotionally connect with us.

If you love red wine, Italian wine, French wine, or you’re still figuring out your taste, this is for you.

Watch till the end and tell me in the comments. Are you Team Italy or Team France, and if you were a wine, what would you be?
