Back with another banger garlic bread recipe—French Onion style 🔥 This one was so incredibly delicious and decadent, I had to stop myself before I ate the entire loaf!
French Onion Garlic Bread 🥖
– 1 freshly baked Italian or French loaf
– 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
– 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened
– 2 bulbs garlic
– 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan
– 2 cups freshly grated Gruyère (add more if needed)
– 2 tbs fresh parsley, chopped
– 1 tbs fresh thyme + more to garnish
– fresh cracked pepper + salt to taste
– 1 cup beef broth, for deglazing
Preheat oven to 375F. Slice ends off garlic bulbs, drizzle each with olive oil, add a pinch of salt, and wrap in foil.
Meanwhile, add onions and about 1/2 tsp salt to a skillet on medium heat and saute until soft, 3-5 minutes. Lower the heat and cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally and deglazing the pan with beef broth.
Place foil wrapped garlic in the oven if you haven’t done so already, and bake for 45-55 minutes, until garlic is golden and soft. Keep the oven on for the bread.
Once garlic and onions are done and cooled, add butter to a bowl along with onions, parsley, and thyme. Squeeze out the garlic from the bulb into the bowl and mix well. I use a rubber spatula. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Slice loaf in half and add half the butter mixture, 1 cup of Gruyère, & 1/2 of Parmesan to each side of the loaf. Bake for 25-30 minutes until cheese is golden and melty. Top with more fresh thyme and enjoy!
