Muriel’s restaurant in New Orleans keeps a special “ghost table” set nightly for Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan, its resident spirit, who lost the home in a gambling debt and died by suicide in the slave quarters, now the Séance Lounge. The table, with wine and bread, appeases his ghost, who sometimes communicates with guests through flickering lights or knocks, making it a unique spot for diners hoping for a spectral encounter.
The Legend of Pierre Jourdan:
The Homeowner: In the early 1800s, Pierre Jourdan owned the house on Jackson Square and was a passionate gambler.
The Loss: He lost his beloved home in a high-stakes poker game.
The Tragedy: Unable to bear losing his home, he took his own life on the second floor, in the very spot now known as the Séance Lounge.
The Ghost Table Tradition:
Setting the Scene: To keep Pierre’s spirit content and prevent paranormal disturbances, the restaurant sets a table for him each night with bread and wine.
The Location: The table sits at the foot of a staircase leading to the Séance Lounge, a place where significant ghostly activity is reported.
Guest Experiences: Diners at this table, or even nearby, have reported cold spots, flickering lights, mysterious touches, and whispers, all attributed to Pierre.
