This journey captures our scenic road trip from Kohima to Khonoma Village, Nagaland in our Mahindra Thar Roxx 🚙, with some epic shots taken on the Insta X5 along the way.
The drive was a delight, with winding roads that offered breathtaking views of Nagaland’s hills and forests 🌄. Along the way, we discovered some local flavors, including the famous wild apple wine for which Khonoma is well known 🍷🍏, and even tasted apples straight from the trees — fresh, crisp, and unforgettable!
Khonoma Village itself was a perfect blend of nature, culture, and tradition. Known as India’s first green village, it showcases the Angami Naga heritage while preserving the local environment beautifully. Walking through the village and interacting with locals gave us a deep appreciation for their sustainable lifestyle and community spirit 🌿🏡.

18:08 , Poilwa village was only 18 Km from this place, this is where we found the most peaceful stay in Nagaland. a meadow, a ship farm. There is a non luxury homestay run by Sister Anna named as Ellen Homestay. You missed it . Hausum Khel resort Picnic spot was also nearby!

To explore Khonoma village, you have to step down from the comfort of your vehicle…everything can be enjoyed inside a car.

The dziilou valley from this village khonoma is called western Dziikou, this is different from the Viswema village one. People tend to get confused between this two Dzukou valley as one is called southern and this as western Dziikou valley which is very different from each other. The Dziikou you mentioned which was closed was western and not the southern, and the Viswema Dziikou is much more popular and scenic beautiful too. 😊🙏
So sad you guys visited the village without a proper guide to know the history about the village in depth, if not you guys just visited like almost for no nothing without its background history (Eg, Khonoma village had fought with the British army tooth and nail for which the village was burnt down) And bdw the place which you visited after the khonoma village is called Dziileke which also falls under khonoma village area.
