For my latest tasting I am fortunate enough to be trying a wine that received a perfect, 100 point-score from influential American wine critic Robert Parker. To find out how I got on and if the wine lived up to its reputation, follow the link at the bottom of the page to view the full tasting with the tasting.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte lies in Pessac-Léognan on the Left Bank of the Garonne River. During the 1959 Classification of the Graves region its red wine was rated as Grand Cru Classé. Today the estate is also considered to produce one of the foremost examples of white Bordeaux.
Since 1990, the property has been owned by Florence and Daniel Cathiard. The Cathiards have put huge resources into the estate to elevate its wines to a level where they compete with Bordeaux’s finest. Coming as it did 20 years after they took over the estate, achieving the perfect score achieved by this vintage of their red wine was a wonderful endorsement of all that they had done and a recognition of what they had achieved. I tried and was wowed by the wine when it was first released and was really interested to see how it was holding up.
