I know this gonna be an hors sujet but in the 90’s one of the Christmas desserts I loved were Marons Glacés and at the time Le Nôtre was still at the top of his game in France but also in Beirut, and once a year, a nice big box of Marons Glacés was better than anything for me, however by the mid 2000’s Le Nôtre was bust and nobody else was making good produce anymore (that I knew of), and so this became a bygone era for me.
Today marzipan is the direct replacement although it never could dethrone my old favorite, and it’s done by multiple pâtisseries, donc pas de pénurie, galette du roi is a thing too 😊😊, and I’d been king for a year 😁.
I understand that pronouncing those French terms the French way in the States would make the culptrit a gibier de potence, get socially lynshed … ?
And as soon as you said “trou normand”, “cul sec” immediately came to mind for me ☺, quelle belle Zizanie ! 🍹

The world is so small
As a French teacher in India it's nice to recommend this Channel to my students- one has to go beyond the strictly academic syllabus…learning of languages and cultures does happen outside 😍💕
When having a western style dinner in a gathering of friends or family, we do tend to take an apéro. If it’s a traditional Lebanese dinner, we drink along the arak, which is close to the French pastis.
We have to admit. Inserting French words into English adds a bit of je ne sais quoi. Well a bit of sophistication really without being overly snobbish, which is often the case in Lebanon. We use English and French with our Arabic to sound educated and whatnot.
English may have supplanted French as an international language, but the latter is still the language of reference in matters of cuisine! Which makes it all the more appropriate to use the French words when we wish to speak of matters related to the kitchen or cooking.
I mean no one wants to order flamed pan cakes or rooster with wine, right?
