  1. Wear contact lenses.

For years I didn't undersrand why people cried when cutting onions, then i cut onions wothout my contact lenses ans then i understood

  2. Try running cold water from the sink as your chopping them, it helps remove the odors which get in your eyes

  3. My grandfather taught me to never close my eyes while facing the onions. So just dont blink and if you need to blink go back a bit and blink.

  4. In Bretagne, we make it with whole milk. 2 parts milk, 2 parts stock, 1 part reduced Muscadet.
You can't beat that, trust me.
    And no garlic…
Americans… always adding garlic where it doesn't belong.

  5. Not to be THAT guy, but iirc FRENCH onion soup only uses YELLOW onions, and not a mix of different types. Still, it's a helluva soup, what you've shown…

  6. i read somewhere that the gas they produce, its molecules, easily gets attached to wettest "surface" around, which usually is around your eyes thus why you cry all the time. for me, so far, it has been working just grabbing a towel/microfiber and just give it a quick rinse and squeeze but leave just a little extra water on it. plop it on the counter nearby while cutting and should work.
