The first trophy wine alternatives video did so well I had to find 10 MORE.
Watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OmQPn6CfTY
Like a $40 wine made by Screaming Eagle’s former winemaker during their 100-point vintages. Or a $45 New Zealand Chardonnay that beat $8,000+ Grand Cru Burgundies in blind tastings.
I’m counting down 10 more affordable wines that taste like legendary trophy bottles. From the co-director of DRC’s personal $75 project to a biodynamic Bordeaux that now scores perfect 100s alongside First Growths, these aren’t cheap imitations, they’re made by the same people, share the same dirt, or have beaten the icons in head-to-head tastings.
This is Part 2 of your shopping list for drinking like a billionaire on a regular person budget. I still don’t speak French, so enjoy more butchered pronunciation from this Pittsburgh boy.

I told you man make more of this videos!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!
Btw I tried the Amarone you compared to the Quintarelli, amazing! Very close.
Hey Dustin – love the channel. Not sure if you're into natural wines at all and I know the opinions on them can be very strong and polarizing, but just curious if you would ever consider a high level video on the topic. I think many can be quite good but I also think a lot of the younger winemakers have been insanely hyped up to the point where they may be poised to disappoint investors and such. Anyways… love the vids and keep up the great work!
Great video, keep it up!
Another great, informative and most importantly, entertaining vid. Curious though, can uncool people sign up for your newsletter? Asking for a friend. 😊
Trotanoy is not a $100 bottle wine.
Gaja is pronounced with a J and not an H. Italian dosent do Js with an H sound like spanish
Another amazing video! I can just imagine how much research goes into these.
Great video. Have to check out Chateau Larcis Ducasse as the best wine I’ve ever had was a 1998 Chateau Pavie. Kumeu River looks great too as I’m a big fan of white Burgundy. I’ve found that if you want to drink some super Chardonnay which has both good acidity and some body from the oak, grand cru Chablis can rival any white wine in the planet and it still can be found in the 60-70 euro range here in Europe.
Awesome vid, love the comparisons and the explanations — I always knew that I liked Suduiraut, but not *why*. "Oh, they're neighbors! That explains a lot."
Your French pronunciations aren't bad. Honestly, they're intelligible enough to get the point across, so if anyone wants to gatekeep that you didn't drop a silent "t" like you were "supposed to", send 'em to the dishpit to think about how they're wrong and should feel bad about it. Or ask them (if they're a native French speaker) to say "Through thorough thought, the sixth rural squirrel acquired happiness in a brewery" (this phrase is filled with sounds that aren't native to French, so it's super hard for them to say. And "happiness" is often mispronounced by native French speakers to sound like "a penis" which makes it funnier).
Wait…the Expert wine tasters didn’t find similarities between Meiomi Pinot and Romanee-Conti? Heresy I say!!!
Amazing video…getting better by the month. You need more subscribers.
I would love a video about syrah
Do your homework “expert”😂
Great video Dustin! I honestly did the exact same reasoning with Rayas so I bought myself a bottle of Des Tours '19 for about 140 usd. Will take note on that NZ chard they can surely make great whites. Cheers!
All though you have some of the most interesting wine videos, I can not spend more than $50.00 for a bottle of wine. Most of the wines I buy are in the range of $25.00
Providing entertaining content and helping us save money at the same time??
Relax! Even if you pronounced French perfectly, you'd always feel like you were doing it wrong. That's what dealing with (the) French is like. But here's a handy guide to French pronunciation, handed down to me by one of my professors: (1) Take French word, divide it in half. (2) Pronounce the first half like a nasal grunt. (3) Don't pronounce the second half because it is silent.
Interesting concept, fun video. Most of these alternatives are still a bit over my budget. I'm all about you low price videos. Thanks for another one.
Chateau des tours 2015>Rayas 2010 in my experience.
again some great stuff Dustin!
Coincidentally I just opened a Produttori del Barbaresco 21 yesterday and pured myself the last glass just prior to watching your video 😅
Yepp, it's Guy-aah Barberesco
Love this video! Great job!😍🔥
I do not have the ability to keep wine so am looking mostly for wines to drink now. When you know that a wine is going to be better in10 years, do you purchase 2 bottles and try one now?
Thanks! Very good video. I love all the videos. Keep up the great work.
I highly recommend Leviathan Reserve even though it's kinda rare, and hard to find. The elegance, finesse, balance can compete with any $300 wines from Napa.
Pontet Canet, however like Lynch Bages, varies from vintage to vintage. In good ones, they produce very high quality wines comparable to the 1st growths, but in challenging vintages, their wines are just mediocre. So, I'd say, better pay extra to buy Pontet & Lynch of top vintages (still far less than the cheapest 1st growth).
I love Opus One that is rather different from mainstream Napa Cab (big, fruity, heavy bodied), but lighter, elegant & balanced. Hill Cab doesn't fit Opus profile. As Opus price reaches north of $300, I quit buying it. I'd recommend Kapcsandy red blend (cuvee) that offers the similar profile and is priced $150 or less on sale. The Cab is also very good but a bit more expensive.
a cotes du rhone is similar to a chateuneuf de pape? definitely not.
