For my tasting today we have a treat from Bordeaux as I look at a wine from one of the leading estates from the Saint Julien appellation, on the Medoc. The wine concerned is the 2011 vintage from Chateau Leoville Barton.
Ranked Second Growth in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc, Chateau Leoville Barton is a very well-regarded estate from Saint-Julien. Quality has soared at the estate since the 1980s, and today it has the reputation of being one of the most dependable wines in Bordeaux, gaining praise for its relatively reasonable pricing.
The wine is finely structures and cedary, with concentration and ripeness, however it is more red-fruited than the more concentrated, preceding two vintages. The wine ids fully mature now and in no hurry to drink up. It’s red-fruit character being quite typical of the wines from this less concentrated vintage.

Happy Thanksgiving
Really amazing to listen to all the knowledge you are sharing. The past becoming so alive. Which weather conditions on certain days caused effects in grapes before they ever magically phased on precious wines. Always fascinating even before the tasting starts. The description is so detailed that the bouquet reaches beyond space and time. What a delight. Grateful.
What about a cellar tour!?
