Ever wondered if Belle’s fairy tale village actually exists?

Turns out, it does – and it’s even more magical than the film. Disney’s animators travelled to Alsace and directly recreated the medieval streets, half-timbered houses, and that iconic fountain scene from the real villages of Colmar, Riquewihr, and Ribeauvillé. Those rainbow-coloured houses? They were painted according to medieval professions. The Beast’s castle? Likely based on Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, just 16 miles away.
