Geoff Merrill G&W Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Today we delve back into a classic Australian Cabernet Sauvignon from good old Coonawarra/McLaren Vale. Coonawarra famous for their Cabernet amongst other great treasures, but when you speak of terroir and Coonawarra soil and that red dense earth one must come to love the impact this has given this iconic region for producing great Cab Sav, blended with one of my favourite regions for Cabernet, McLaren Vale.. it just becomes simply delicious and offers a complexity and structure to the style. Today’s wine of choice is Geoff Merrills 12’ Cabernet Sauvignon. Regional blend!
The colour is a very deep dark red. The aroma is ripe, concentrated berries, spice and herbs. Olive, plum, menthol and chocolate. Accompanied by sage and a little vanilla bean from the mix of both American and French toasty oak. Not your everyday Coonawarra Cabernet in my opinion, a more masculine beast. The palate has great length and acidity, with firm grip and tannins that balance the fruit and bring it all together as one. So what do I pair with such a wine?

It has to be Hook And A Line by Two Banks Of Four – Zed Bias remix on Sirkus Recordings. Released in 2001 off their City Watching album. 🍷Definitely an album that signifies a time of my life..
If anyone knows me well, they will know that I’m obsessed with 2BO4 and have been since way back when!
