The word “compote” originates from the French compôte, referring to a blend of fruits boiled in water with sugar. Initially served as a dessert in glasses in Europe, often with spices and wine. In the Middle Ages, compote was a ceremonial dish at banquets, made from dried fruits and spices, symbolizing abundance. #CompoteHistory #FruitDessert #EuropeanCuisine #FoodHistory #Cooking
