So… what's really down there? For me, the biggest surprise was Montreuil-Bellay—learning that women and nuns were held in those cells right beneath the grand dining hall during the Revolution. These weren't just dungeons for criminals. They were tools of power. Which castle's story hit you hardest? 🏰
The architecture is mind blowing but one can only imagine the tragic suffering of those in captivity. So sad.
What are the holes in the walls of the dungeon from? This is amazing.
The French king had lent enormous amounts of money from the Templars which he didn't want to pay back. Thus, they were accused.
