France is going through one of the worst problems of the past 50 years… and it’s all because of its senior citizens…
The country has had 5 Prime Ministers in the past 4 years and there are so many continuous protests…
So France started as one of the best places to live in Europe… it was the second largest European economy after Germany, and had the most lavish benefits for its citizens…
Free education for every child up to college
Free healthcare without limits for every citizen
If you lose your job, the govt keeps paying you monthly
If you retire, you get a pension till the day you die.
These rules were made at a time when France was a young country with young people… and taxes collected from young working class would pay for old people’s pension…
In 1990, there was one retiree per 5 workers… In 2010, there was 1 for every 3… and it’s reaching a point where there are 2 workers for each retiree…
Such that France’s pension payments are more than the payments in salaries to the working population…
On top of it, they love their 35 hour workweeks, sipping wine, and enjoying life, a culture that started when the country was wealthy… but cultures don’t run out as fast as the monies do.
So what can the government do?
They tried raising the retirement age from 62 to 64… asking people to work two more years than retire early, and that had the entire country break into a protest because how could you expect us to work for 2 more years…
When all surrounding nations have higher retirement ages!
The government can’t raise taxes because they are already high…
They can’t cut down social benefits…
They can’t borrow any more money because now the world doesn’t want to lend to them anymore…
So one party comes to power and starts a reform… the other would oppose any of the three things they try to do…
So it’s a mad circle of old people constantly angry and frustrated and wanting to protest.
So, when you have to pick the right country to build your career in… you look for 2 things from a macroeconomic perspective – demographic dividend (young population), and willingness to work.

Is India best place to live just because of this skewed logic of opportunity of creating massive wealth. India is place where you are asked to work 70 hours a week just compared to 35 hours in France and othre Developed Countries , Labour Laws are almost non existent and inclined in th favour of employer. Atleast in France People are getting something in return againt Taxes they pay.In India we pay high taxes like UK to get services like Somalia. Govermnet doesnt give anything in return in India Education is expensive and , Healthcare is super expensive , No social secirity

Let me be clear about one thing FRENCH PEOPLE atleast most of them I know are extremely intelligent and hardworking… It's basically quality over quantity for them and vice versa for Indians the reason these protests are happening because they were considered the bedrock of libertarian-ism because of which they acceptedloads of illegal islamic refugees who were a liability to.their system AND also the fact that they are now facing shrinking Y-o-Y effective taxpayer base causing lesser money being accounted in the government coffers… NOT the reasons you mentioned.
