Let’s make Bordeaux fun and pair Chateau Marjosse with steak frites!
Chateau Marjosse is one of Bordeaux’s best values and it’s made by the legendary Pierre Lurton who runs Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem, two of the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux.
But Marjosse? It’s his “secret garden” where he makes approachable, delicious wine in the Entre-Deux-Mers region.
The wine is a traditional French blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Malbec, making it count as Merlot for the purpose of our International Merlot Month review series!
I love the ripe cherry, blueberry, and blackberry fruit flavors that are accented by a hint of licorice and matched with velvety, smooth tannins on the finish.
You get classic Bordeaux elegance with beautifully ripe fruit for around $20 – a total steal.
The pairing? Steak frites. Simple prep lets the wine and beef shine. The tannins cut the richness, the acidity lifts everything, and the crispy frites add textural fun.
Just because this is a Bordeaux wine doesn’t mean we need to get super fancy – sometimes the best things are the simple things, just like this pairing!
