Elegant • Earthy • Calabrian
If you love Etna Rosso, you’ll love this wine. Esmén Tetra is crafted from the same grapes, 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio, grown not on Sicily’s volcano but in the rugged hills of Calabria at 520 meters altitude. The result is a luminous ruby-red wine with the freshness, structure, and savory character that Etna fans crave, but with a unique Calabrian twist.
The Story Behind Tenuta del Travale Esmén Tetra
Tenuta del Travale is a small, family-run estate in Rovito, Calabria, founded in 1993. At its heart is Raffaella Ciardullo, a retired school teacher and native of Cosenza, who transformed a derelict property into a thriving vineyard. With terraced slopes, clay-limestone soils, and dramatic temperature swings, the site produces wines of depth and precision.
Crafted with native yeast fermentation and aged in both French oak and chestnut barrels, Esmén Tetra is polished yet authentic. A hidden gem from Southern Italy, it’s ideal with grilled lamb chops, mushroom risotto, duck breast, or aged Pecorino.
