As September settles in, the air in Edinburgh has turned cooler and the days are growing shorter. It feels like the perfect moment to retreat indoors and enjoy the simple pleasures of home. In this video I bake an apple and cinnamon tart lined with apricot preserve, a recipe that fills the kitchen with the most comforting scent and captures the feeling of early autumn. Elegant in its simplicity, it is just as lovely served after Sunday lunch as it is with an afternoon cup of tea.

  1. That looks yummy and I am going to try it, but I might add a small layer of homemade marzipan to the base as the thin tart might not be enough to satisfy my sweet tooth 😆. The biggest treat was seeing Sophie running in the field 💗

  2. It's the same weather here in Toronto. I could hear Sofies little feet tapping on the floor when you were tasting the apple tart! Nicholas, I had a heart attack last Tuesday and had heart surgery (angioplasty). The worst part was I was away from Timmy, my little 13 yr old dog!
I came home yesterday afternoon, and the two of us are cozy and propped up in bed, having tea & banana bread watching your lovely video! ❤ David and Timmy 🇨🇦

  3. Nicolas, you need to get the pastry blender attachment for your KitchenAid! It will be a game changer for you!

  4. Nicolas, the apple cinnamon tart looks delicious! I can’t wait to try making it. Thank you for sharing this recipe. ❤

  5. Oh wow that tart looks amazing very pretty! I have a small apple orchard and I love making apple desserts or "puddings" as you call them across the pond. You should check out Ina Garten's french apple tart recipe – basically you roll out a 10 inch x 14 inch rectangular dough and strew the apples on top or do a diagonal pattern of thinly sliced apples, then you heat up some apricot preserve and strain the chunks out and then get a pastry brush and just brush the apricot jam over top the apples and it gives it the most incredibly glossy golden look after baked. It's more of a free style without having to deal with a tart pan you should have a look next time you are feeling autumnal and want to bake an apple pudding.

  6. Nicholas ~ Your tart absolutely looked professional to me!!…I'm just a little older than your Mom and I STILL have never made a tart!!…You give me inspiration with cooking and decorating all the time…I totally look forward to all your videos you put out…Thankyou!!…May God bless you today and every day!! :))

  7. Just pick the blackberries. Brambles grow everywhere in Scotland. They taste better, cost nothing and not only can you use them in pies, they make great jam/jelly and even wine!

  8. Nicolas you were cracking me up mixing the dough!🤣Have you ever cooked a turkey? Awful, I can't stand it! 😩

  9. Absolutely gorgeous and your apple 🍎 tarts looks delicious, but you know one thing Nicholas little angel Sofi was around you could hear her little steps on the wooden floor and if she was so excited that you’re making something so tasty maybe if you could’ve shared some with her or made something for her as well that would’ve been so nice. I wish you could do that in your next video. Looking forward to it because you know I mean if you have another member in the house then that member was very excited that you were making something tasty so kind of really hurts me. I mean, I get very sensitive to this sorry but I wish you’d do it next time. See you soon.
