  1. This is new knowledge to me. I’m very pleased to learn it. I live on the English Kent coast. I technically live closer to France in regards to distance than London. Within 2 minutes walk I can see the French coast on a clear, good day (British weather results in poor visibility most times though). I am a bar manager in a grassroots music venue and despite not being my strong point, I like to consider myself somewhat above average when being clued up on wine.

My palate differs greatly in comparison to the preferred UK market. French I like Picpoul for white, Bordeaux for red. Rioja and Tempranillo from Spain. I’m half Australian so I do also like Shiraz from Aus. Cabernet Sauvignon from Cali. I visited Georgia (country) a few years back. As the true originators of wine, you’ll never look back. At £3 a bottle, grown, harvested and brewed 20 meters from where you’re staying in a traditional method dating back 6-8000 years. You can’t go wrong. I was pleasantly surprised sampling polish white. But my all time favourite is German Riesling.

I’ll stop ranting.. but Napa Valley, California is renowned. But. With sadness, the only upside to climate change within my locality of the Kentish coast is that soon…. France’s wine regions will die off. The channel chalk basin between both countries is geographically identical which means the increased heat in the south east of England is making English wine the new craze. Another ten years of rising temps will make Kent a wine region surpassing French regions in quality and quantity. I have friends who’ve already started investing in local land for vineyards!

  2. Some people on the tasting panel were allegedly so displeased with the results, they wanted their score sheets back. The Judgment of Paris is such a great lesson about bias in tasting food and drink.
