British-French person here. I agree with a lot of this. English breakfast is delicious if it is cooked carefully with good ingredients (tasty bacon, sausages from a butcher, free range eggs etc). I mostly prefer English cakes and even English versions of things like éclairs and profiteroles because I prefer English whipped cream to French crème pâtissière… Hash browns are American but have been enjoyed also in the UK for a while. I think the people in Devon and Cornwall would argue with scones being Scottish! I agree that generally you get a better choice of nice fruit and vegetables in France. More choice, usually, in cheese too. And probably more choice in cuts of meat. English food is often 'comfort food' more than sophisticated, and sometimes the flavours are simple, but not bad. Traditionally most dishes are accompanied by some kind of sauce, even if just gravy.. but also, eg. English mustard, mint sauce, horseradish, tartare sauce, apple sauce, etc. I also like bread sauce and cranberry sauce with Christmas dinner 🙂
"How does British and French cuisine differ"
Much less than people imagine.
You don't try to kill each other for a 1,000 years without capturing a few catering staff.
5:03 If your roast is bland, you're not sourcing the right ingredients and/or your not coming out correctly.
And British cuisine has had countless herbs and spices used in it for over 2,000 years.
Who do you think the Romans went through to get to the British and what do you think they brought with them?
I don't know what the fish is like down in Taunton, I think maybe Poole still has a fishing fleet?
But the very best fish comes in to Hastings, go to Maggie's. Or find a chippie in Pevensey.
Fish and chips made with real fresh cod is a revelation, I took it for granted as a kid in the 80s, frozen cod off factory ships doesn't cut it.
Fresh cod steamed to perfection inside a protective batter coating, it's perfect.
Perfect
I don’t have much experience with eating French food, but it looks nice and made well. I do really enjoy British food, but I do find it difficult to eat it for several meals a week. Our convenience food is not great, though, if you to quickly grab something for lunch and you can’t afford to spend several pounds. It is no surprise tourists to the UK have bad experiences, when they are on a budget.
I like to add herbs or spices to my food, depending what I am cooking. Vegetarian cooking only
English here. I cook with a lot of butter and it really improves the taste of foods cooked this way. The notion that fat increases the risk of heart disease and is therefore bad for your health is widespread. The "French Paradox" is the example that despite a higher fat content in the diet, there is a lower incidence of heart disease. If fats were bad for your health this is a proposition that could not be true. It is a fact that when I go to France, I always enjoy the higher standard of cuisine. (the wine may help me to feel this) 😁🍷
What a lovely couple you met! Very enjoyable❤
What a great couple! Nice to see a French and English union! 😆
For most, English breakfast is eaten occisionally, not every day, sometimes as brunch. If we all ate it everyday we'd be overweight. 🤪
A bit like superman when he puts on his Glasses when you put on your English accent you could be a completely different person 😂😂
What a fun video ! Well done !!!
The yellow shirt guys next to the catapult doing their funny little "go fast now" dance is hilarious 😂
Dude, just point, don't dance.
French food wins every time. Only the French know how to make perfect bread. Hard crusts with a soft absorbent filling. The cheeses, wines, croissants, pastries, gateaux. Not to mention the many varieties of French tinned vegetables I stock up on when I visit Carrefour. As a Brit, our food is unimaginative and mostly boring. France is the outright winner for food.
English breakfast. I have to agree with the English man. A vegetarian sausage for me. Yes, I'm a veggie. My world was brought down recently when I looked at the 'English' Heinz beans we thought were our own. NO! They come from America, mainly North Dakota. Is anything British in that meal?
The couple you interviewed were perfect. You must ask them to participate again.
Your English disguise was amusing, For your French character you should consider adding a quick blast of copyright free French accordion music occasionally, Merci.
Veggie and vegan foods are generally quite hit and miss. English and French cuisine is quite reliant on meat and fish so comparisons avoiding meat and fish are probably not so useful.
How can veggies comment on food with meat
French produce is definitely better. I was blown away by what I saw in Lidl when I visited my sister who lives in France. What we get over here is poor in comparison. l'm trying to learn French and I cannot get my mouth to say millefeuille. Cake soup, 😂😂😂 The vegetarian/vegan sausage is an abomination. Nobody can make one with any taste. The Frenchwoman speaks good English, although she will never lose her accent unless that is what she really wants.
