What happens when Pasta Grannies sets sail? Lots of pasta, of course. When Virgin Voyages kindly offered Pasta Grannies a cruise, we thought it would be a fun challenge to film Pasta Grannies in Every Port. I wanted to see what recipes were shared around this part of the Med.
We boarded the Scarlet Lady in Barcelona and set off on a journey to Mallorca, Cannes, Corsica, Livorno, and finally Civitavecchia. And we kinda succeeded! We met incredible local grandmothers – and grandpas – in every port who welcomed us into their kitchens to share their favourite family recipes.

Which recipe would you like to see as a full video here on YouTube? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. fantastic vid! they're not italian, but would you ever consider visiting the french alps? savoy (savoie) has its own pastas, like nouilles savoisiennes, taillerins, crozets, pâtes à la savoyarde… crozets are the most famous, made with tiny little pasta squares 🙂

  2. Excellent tour!
Small correction for Mallorca: pimentón means paprika, pepper is pimiento, or pebrot in Catalan. And I guess Juan is actually called Joan, a very Majorcan name.

  3. I’d love to see this series expand to more cultures influenced by Italy, both in ancient times and recently!

  4. Thank-you Vicky for hosting in Spain, France and Italy, blessed beyond compare to visit these friendly "neighbours" on a cruise inviting you to their culinary treasures in Catalan, Niçois and Ligurian languages and towns. I am a great seafood lover and at Christmas we do not cook turkey, chicken or any other meat but seafood in all kinds my famous spaghetti ai frutti di mare is so watering, I would love to explore more those last recipes. You missed the famous Spanish Paellas another wonderful dish. Many blessings to all and mille grazie sempre.🙏💖🥰😋😋😋😋

  5. 😮😮kohlrabi…yes I always grow this yummy vegetable…be nice to see what they do with it..and if I were to choose what to see in a video the lady that cooked spaghetti seafood…have a fun time in Italy..❤❤

  6. Nice to hear the Corsican dialect, which strangely enough is more similar to Ligurian than to Sardinian, and certainly not a French one! Years ago I tried to ask for directions in the midlle of the island (Corte) in French, they pretended not to understand (they saw my Italian plate) until they answered in Italian. They don't love the French there. As for the next episode, definitely the fish soup from Civitavecchia, the granpa is super nice.

  7. Very interesting video which I did not see coming! The connection between Mediterranean cities is obvious… Just imagine what you could have with a stop in some Tunisia port, in Oran, etc. As a Frenchman living in Catalonia for 20 years, I felt so proud of the Mallorca fideus and the Corsican cannelloni!!!

  8. I so pleased you and the team got to go on holiday. Looking forward to Pasta Grannies back to regularly scheduled programming.

  9. Fantastic! Great recipes all of them! In Valencia we also have a recipe with fideos or noodles called fideuà. But it is made with seafood, it's dry and not with broth. Very different!

  10. Lovely video! How wonderful to cruise and share recipes! Were you giving talks on the Virgin cruise as well?

  11. What a great video! My favorite part was at your last stop where the fellow was standing “with bowl in hand” as the fish soup was brought to table. That made me chuckle! TFS, Sharon😬❤️🍝

  12. Absolutely delightful holiday – would love to see full episodes of all recipes! Sending much love to all from Carmel by the Sea xoxo

  13. Really happy to see the making of canneloni. We call lesser callamint "Nepita". It tastes like Corsica. Would love to see more of Corsica! Desserts made with Brocciu like the ambrucciata are incredible! ❤

  14. Pasta Grannies finds itself at a juncture, obviously. You can remain true to your roots and concepts bringing on grannies one by one out of obscurity. Or you can cave to the temptations of sponsored content such as this. The only segment that merits follow up are the wonderful Corsican canelloni. They got short shrift, and badly. Take a deep breath, and then go visit the Valtellina and Poschiavo and teach us, slowly, all about Pizzoccheri.

  15. Noodles run across Europe. They can that way via Asia. Italian cuisine took to it like duck to water. Other areas like Croatia were taken over by Italy and got pasta that way. It is so fascinating!

  16. The amount of work that went into this one video alone just boggles the mind. Great work as always Vicky and company!
