French Dip Sandwich

Ingredients:
¼ lb thinly sliced beef
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
1 French roll or 4-inch baguette
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 clove garlic, sliced in half
3-4 slices mozzarella cheese

For the Au Jus:
½ cup chicken or beef stock
¼ tsp dried thyme
¼ tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp white wine
¼ tsp onion powder
1 clove garlic, minced
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste

Directions:
Cook the beef on a nonstick pan until browned
Remove and in the same pan, make the au jus by adding in the chicken stock, thyme, rosemary, Worcestershire sauce, white wine, onion, powder, garlic, salt, and black pepper, then bring to a boil and let bubble for 6-8 minutes
Place the cooked beef back into the au jus and let soak for 2-3 minutes
Preheat the broiler to high
Cut a clove of garlic in half and rub it over a French roll cut in half, then butter both halves of the roll and place face-up on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper
Place the slices of beef on top, then top with sliced mozzarella cheese
Let broil for 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly browned
Close the sandwich and serve with the rest of the au jus on the side for dipping

  1. have you done salmon patties yet? they were invented during the great depression as a cheap way to avoid illness (more specifically the same illness that created the term redneck)!

  2. This reminds me of a banh mi in a way. Similar to a french baguette, considering the french did colonise vietnam, but regardless, some vietnamese people do enjoy dipping their banh mis into soup surprisingly, give it a try you might enjoy it!
