As a belgian I often tends to trick people to avoid the ends of baguette as it is harder to chew on, I prefer the soft part of baguette 😀 never heard of that upside down rule, and here it can go on plates and be cut with a knife.
After living here in France for 5 years and associating basically with only French people this whole time, I only learn these superstitious things from videos like this, lol none of my Frenchies really care about stuff like this, haha
There is a whole scene in French "Diva" movie about the proper substance, smell, warmth, and taste of baguette and the way to rip it and to spray butter. While discussing a kidnapping or murder attempt.
Tips when traveling France : many restaurant put the bread in a small basket so that you don't need to put it on the table, which has been hastily cleaned. But anyway never put the bread in your plate.
basically, respecting a baguette is ripping it apart with your bare hands and making it an outcast, just realized that… Still think it's the right way though 😛
Alice should have asked if she could have her cheese with crackers instead of baguette. Best case, she’d have been escorted out—more likely, defenestrated!
I laugh, but yes, that's exactly it. Don't forget to make the sign of the cross with the knife before ripping the bread (rarely on the baguette, but in my family we do it). And the "quignon"… the baguette is often started on the way back from the bakery.😅 And of course, NEVER THROW A PIECE OF BREAD IN THE TRASH (at worst, we give it to the birds) (i heard this sentence more than 1k times in my life)

😂😂
When we had a large bread (not a baguette), we used to make a cross sign on it before cutting it
I’d say, not so much a right on the quignon, but rather a hijack
In the french countryside, you could here that the devil dance on the table if the bread is upside-down. Or another variation of it.

I do confirm : baguette is a sacred dish (a whole in itself) in France !
Follow all these rules and your life will be safe !! OKAY ??!!!!
Vieille tradition de la fin de l'antiquité on rompt le pain qui est considéré comme le corps du Christ, on y porte pas la lame dessus.

We treat our baguettes as you treat your american flag
If this keeps up, they'll both pick a stale baguette and have a duel of the fates…
I wouldn’t put a loaf bread upside down, I wouldn’t put a cookie upside down.
I'm french, quignon's literally the best part. It's true
Honestly as a French person I never heard about these rules minus the cutting the bread with a knife (which I don't always follow)

Cutting by hand and not using a side plate: pas pour ceux qui ont des manières!

‘tsk – not baguette’ 😂

I'm from Spain and is exactly the same with bread. Bread is sacred.

I love it when culture take their food so seriously that it becomes funny
