  1. My chickens ate my rhubarb right down to the dirt last fall; i finally had to cover it to keep it alive. They all did fine, and didn't suffer from it so it might not be true of chickens, lol. To make your rhubarb really take off, cover it with horse manure every fall. It made my red rhubarb huge the last two years.

  2. My family is from northwest Ohio, my mom used to make a rhubarb cobbler, oh it was so good!! We would also eat the rubarb stick with salt on it.

  3. My mother-in-law made the best Rhubarb Custard pie. She got the recipe from a friend. Years later i found the recipe in the Better Homes & Garden cookbook. The one with the gingham cover. What a treat!

  4. Thank you for a delicious recipe, right after watching your video, I made your pie crust and 2 pies, the crust was easy and yummy. My husband and I are both enjoying our dessert. We have an abundance of rhubarb every year and try to use it up or freeze. I used my frozen rhubarb to make the pies, it just took longer to cook. Our rhubarb is about 6 inches tall here in Maine.

  5. Hi, I made the pie. I followed the recipe for just one pie. I'm wondering if there might be a mistake? The filling says one pie. Dough is 2 pies. But the question is the topping. I seems way too much for 1 pie?? I used just part of it. tnx

  6. Oh my goodness this was a wonderful video. My husband informed me that rhubarb pie was his favorite. I have never made one because rhubarb doesn’t grow good in Mississippi but he grew up in Illinois and Wisconsin so he had it as a child. I also liked that you don’t waste anything and made turnover pies for the children. Thank you for sharing with us. I can’t wait for your cookbook to come out. Have a blessed day

  7. I live in Alabama. I have heard of rhubarb pie but never tasted rhubarb . I’m going to research to see if we can go rhubarb here. Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. Mammals might be smart enough not to eat rhubarb, but I am not so sure about birds – or at least my chickens. When I let them free range the half an acre backyard, they will often snack on the leaves. 🙄 Absolutely not out of hunger.

  9. I keep my lard (also raised and rendered by us) in the refrigerator. Can i store it in the basement? It is colder there. We've only had pigs for 3 years, but our start in homesteading feels so good.

  10. You have my mouth watering for rhubarb pie now! My mother used to put meringue on her rhubarb pies. I think the French part comes from the topping. Because I make an apple pie like that.

  11. Rhubarb pies are in North Ossetia which is in Kavkaz Mountains. My mother in law does them on all ocassions but her recipe is different a little bit but I guess any are definitely delishious! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  12. In the 1950s, my dad grew rhubarb in a " root house" and harvested it in the winter! We lived in Michigan and it was, at one point, called the Rhubarb capital of the US! He shipped it by rail all over the states! In our small town of Utica, we had an event called the Rhubarb Festival! My sister won a prize for her Rhubarb Strawberry pie! My mother rendered her lard from pork fat and her pie crusts were excellent! From all of this reminiscing, you have to know I'm up there in age, but some of this seems like yesterday! Your rhubarb brought it all back! To bad we didn't know what good times those were!

  13. I’m guessing the “French” part comes from your crumb topping. We always made “French” Apple pie that had a crumb topping. I planted rhubarb for the first time so I will put this recipe in my binder. Thank you!

  14. I am French and have no idea why it is called « French »!😂 Thank you for the recipe, I have loads of rhubarb in my garden in the Jura mountains…and we love it ….in pies or in jams.

  15. We used to make what we called a snake with leftover pie crust. Roll it out. Add melted butter, sugar and cinnamon and bake. Linda Elliott

  16. OH MY LORD THIS PIE IS INCREDIBLE! I happened to have rhubarb ready for picking and your very timely video convinced me to make it into pie. My crust was unfortunately a bit on the tough side but the pie is absolutely heavenly. Thank you SOOOO much!!

  17. They looked very good!!! I’m thinking the reason fir the French in the name would be bcz you put vanilla in your mixture!

  18. Woman of God, you are precious 💕 The glory of the Lord shines all over you!! If all we followers of Yeshua, exuded His love like you do ~ I think we'd have more Brothers and Sisters in Christ ✝️🦁👑💜⚔️🛡️🙌✡️ Lord, remind us, if necessary, that our Joy is in YOU! (P.S. My grandparents raised me and "Nanny" always grew rhubarb and always made rhubarb pie.)

  19. Hi RuthAnn,
I'm trying to get my rhubarb patch reestablished after experiencing some minor flood damage to my garden area here in WNC. I'm really just thankful the asparagus bed survived unscathed. 🙌
Though rhubarb pie hasn't previously been one of my family's go-to pies, I'm certainly going to give it another try using your recipe.
Our primary use for rhubarb is to make Strawberry Rhubarb jam. My husband just brought the last jar upstairs a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately, I have both strawberries & rhubarb in the freezer. So after our Revival services are over later this week, I'll pull those items out and make up another batch or two of jam.
Besides Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, another favorite at our house is Applebutter.
Your channel brings so much joy to my heart & memories of life growing up on our family farm. It also gets my creative juices flowing.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom with so many!

  20. Ruthann, you are my Favorite neighbor!!! Lol, even tho I'm not! You magnify warmth and friendship! As always I'm so grateful for your shared knowledge ❤
