To avoid the yacht sinking orcas in the Bay of Biscay we decided to take our blue water sailing yachts through mainland Europe via the French Inland Waterways (VNF). It was an adventure of a lifetime but it would turn out to be a lot harder than we expected.
In this, the penultimate episode of our French inland waterway VNF adventure, the trio of vessels tackle the biggest lock in Europe before exploring the ancient town of Avignon.
We aim to get from Chalon-sur-Saone to Lyon along the whole Saone to the confluence of the Rhone.

I am sorry but the largest lock in Europe in fact in the World is 70 meters (76.55 y.) wide and 500 meters (546.8 y.) long and is situated in IJmuiden the Netherlands.
You possibly mean a particular type of lock?

I live very close to Gabčíkovo dam on Danube, there are two locks 34 x 275 m and up to 23,3 m water level difference, absolutely massive, much bigger than Bollène.
What is your total time travel from seine until the mid?
My friend, the tallest, better, Deepest lock in Europe is Carrapatelo Lock, Douro river, Portugal, 35 meters!!!
